A staff of the Controller and Accountants General's Department Gilbert Kwesi Mensah Addison has stolen more than 115,000 while on secondment at the Nursing and Midwifery Council in 2014.

According to the Auditor-General's report for 2015, Gilbert Kwesi Mensah Addison forged Bank of Ghana pay-in slips to make 115,882 cedis.

He admitted to stealing and explained he used the money to build a garage, one living room, and one store room.

He also bought personal items and constructed a wall around his property in the Western Region.

Appearing before the Public Accounts Committee [PAC], an official from the Nursing and Midwifery Council, Felix Nyanta, said despite the monthly report presented to the Council, Gilbert Mensah was able to hide the fraud from the Council. He said it took the internal auditors of the Council to find out the bad deeds of the worker.

He was then reported to the police and currently helping with investigations.

Member of  PAC Abdulai Mohammed Mubarak (Ras Mubarak) said he is unhappy with how prosecution of these unlawful public servants drags, adding this makes it  difficult for citizens to trust the state in dealing with corrupt persons.
