A court in Accra has issued a bench warrant for the arrest of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament for Nhyieso, Stephen Amoah.
The bench warrant for the arrest of the lawmaker and another person, one Samuel Anim, was issued by the La Magistrates Court because they failed to appear in court to face prosecution for allegedly flouting road traffic regulations.
Stephen Amoah fell in the clutch of the police on Tuesday, December 7, 2021, for breaking a road traffic law.
The arrest of the legislator was part of an exercise to clamp down V8 drivers who flout road traffic regulations. The exercise on Tuesday was to ensure that drivers comply with road traffic regulations, police said.
During the exercise, the drivers were arrested for the offences such as careless driving, dangerous driving and causing road obstruction among others.

It is a common practice in Ghana for persons driving four-wheeled V8 engine vehicles to, for instance, evade traffic by driving ahead in the opposite direction.
In a press release dated December 8, 2021, police explain that five of the seven suspected drivers arrested on Tuesday appeared before the La Magistrates Court to answer for their charges.
“Five of the suspected drivers appeared before where four, namely Dominic Atuahene Ababio, Daniel Boateng, Emmanuel Kofi Ofori and Joseph Brown were sentenced to pay a fine of GH¢1,800 each or in default serve three months prison terms. All four convicted drivers paid their fines,” police explained.
One Thomas Atinga, who was also arrested during the exercise was convicted to sign a bond of good behaviour for three months or in default serves three months prison term.
The Nhyieso MP was driving a Toyota Land Cruiser with registration number GT 7059 – 20 when he was picked up on Tuesday.
