The Public Relations Officer of the Ghana Standards Authority (GSA), Kofi Amponsah Bediako, has alleged that the GSA Chief Executive Officer, Dr George Crentsil, and his family wasted monies meant for the running of the state institution.
Dr Crentsil has been indicted in a report for taking a bribe worth $1.2million from Lemet Construction Company, the construction firm awarded a contract to build a new training school and hostel facility for the institution.
In an interview on Accra FM yesterday, Mr Bediako noted that the revelations on the corruption scandal has brought into the limelight deals that were undertaken by Dr Crentsil.
Mr. Kofi Amponsah Bediako assured that in the coming days, Ghanaians would be furnished with more specifics on those questionable deals Dr Crentsil undertook.
He said: “He and his family dipped their hands into the coffers of the Ghana Standards Authority and made away with those monies.â€
Kofi Amponsah Bediako further emphasized that: “The structures at the Ghana Standards Authority are in such a way that I, as PRO, wouldn’t be in the know of this act by the CEO, and so I wasn’t aware of that incident until it was revealed by someone. Until a thief is caught, you wouldn’t know that he is a thiefâ€.
He denied claims that he was behind the revelations; Let me place it on record that I wasn’t the one who blew this matter because I didn’t know about it. There are more issues that this matter has brought up and I am sure in the coming days we will become aware.
“Some of us long suspected that some dubious deals were being undertaken but we did not have any concrete evidence or basis to confirm our suspicions, so we all kept quiet.â€
He added: “I will want the media to question Dr Crentsil on this matter because he is the best person to answer questions on this.â€
