The Information Ministry has disclosed that the Delta Variant of COVID-19 has been recorded in a Ghanaian community.

In a post on its official Facebook page, the Ministry of Information said at “10:00hours on Friday, July 2, 2021, the Covid-19 task force was advised by the Ghana Health Service, that the Delta Variant of the SARS-Cov-2 virus has been recorded within a community (ie non-arriving passengers) in the latest round of genomic sequencing. Relevant agencies are taking the necessary steps to ensure that spread is contained,” the post read.

First identified in India, the Delta variant is a more deadly and transmissible form of the novel coronavirus.

It has spread to at least 77 countries and regions and now makes up more than 20 per cent of all U.S. cases.

According to the state-owned Daily Graphic, its sources say the Delta variant was recorded at a senior high school in Accra.
