Deputy Minister of Justice and Attorney General, Justice Srem Sai has justified the raid on the home of former Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Dr Ernest Addison.

According to him, the raid at Dr. Ernest Addison's home on March 19 was done in accordance with the law.

The raid, which took place at Roman Ridge in Accra, was reportedly led by Richard Jakpa, the Director of Special Operations at the National Security Secretariat.

The operatives, some wearing balaclavas and carrying AK-47 rifles., allegedly disabled CCTV cameras before searching the property.

However, Srem Sai, speaking to a journalist a day after the incident stated that 'warrants were procured and used for the raid.'

“We take responsibility for the search that happened. We want to make it clear that those searches and the mode in which they were done were in accordance with the law. Warrants were procured and used,” he said.

Meanwhile, Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has accused the National Security operatives of stealing cash and valuable items belonging to Dr. Ernest Addison during the raid.

Afenyo-Markin, speaking at a press conference held in Parliament, condemned the operation, describing it as a blatant act of state-sponsored intimidation and theft.

He demanded an immediate investigation into the incident and called for accountability from John Mahama's administration.

“Some GH₵10,000 on his bed could not be found. So some of these hungry party foot soldiers they use, who parade themselves as National Security Operatives, are perhaps not being paid and use this opportunity to steal,” he stated.
