Commercial drivers and commuters around Kwame Nkrumah Circle in Accra will heave a sigh of relief as the ongoing interchange construction is expected to be completed by the end of this month(October).

The estimated 74 million Euros Kwame Nkrumah Interchange according to contractors, Queiroz Galvao is 94 percent complete and the remaining works would be done before the end of this month.

Primenewsghana.com hit the streets to find out drivers and commuter’s reaction to the news of the interchange completion after having to deal with heavy traffic and other health issues associated with the construction since it began.

According to Daniel Nsiah, a driver who plies from circle to Kasoa, there would be free flow of traffic and travelling time would decrease when the work is completed.

“We have been occasionally moved from one place to the other during the constructions and passengers sometimes find it very difficult to locate our stations. But we would have a comfortable and stable station if the construction is done which is a good news,” he stated.

He added that, the dust and potholes on the roads also affected their vehicles and had to resort to constant maintenance which comes with a huge cost.

“We can already see how smooth, operating in the area will be and only pray that it is completed as stated. But so far, we are sure that, we would be comfortable,” he stated.

A 42-year-old Security at Mantrac, a company opposite the VIP Station at Circle, Stephen Amoo said vehicles pass right in front of their office due to the diversion made in order to construct the road heading to the industrial area.

“There is chaos especially when there is traffic with the noise from the horns of the cars which actually affects the peaceful working environment,” he complained.

He added that it would be great for the drivers and all if the work is ended to avoid the usual struggle with drivers for space around the office.

A student at the Methodist University, Mary Asiedu who uses the circle to Dansoman route on daily basis said, “we just can’t wait to see the work completed as we sometimes stay in traffic for hours at Circle which is very stressful and delays our time for classes.”

She added that they are excited about the completion as gradually the traffic is flowing and it would be better if the work is finally completed.

There would have a three-tier interchange and other ancillary works including drainage, terminals, pedestrian walkways, landscaping among others.

The Nkrumah Circle is a major road network that links the suburban areas of Accra to the central business district and carries over 80,000 vehicles a day.
