About 30 great women in media have been celebrated for their outstanding achievements and great impact in various fields of Media Communications in Africa at the maiden African Media Honours held at the MultiChoice Ghana office.
The event held on December 15, 2021, was under the theme ‘Progressive Portrayal: Celebrating Power House Women in Media’ and was powered by AFRIMASS NETWORK in collaboration with GUINNESS GHANA LIMITED.
Speaking at the event, the founder and Director of AFRIMASS NETWORK, Sir Raymond Smith explained that Africa Media Honours is an initiative to work with partners and stakeholders to be a driving force to accelerate and transform the media, entertainment, and advertising industry to be more representative, progressive, and equal in their portrayal of women.
The Africa Media Honours is a platform that recognizes outstanding, top-tier African Women who have worked or worked in various sectors of Media Communication.
“The Africa Media Honours is a day where 30 Outstanding Women excelling and making a great impact in various fields of media communications are acknowledged and their stories shared so as to inspire the next generation of ambitious and impact-conscious women in media.
“Our tagline, Celebrating Powerhouse Women in Media Communications; salutes and recognizes women who are making an impact in the media enterprise from Entertainment, Content Creation, Advertising, Media Management, Media Marketing, Media Sales Professions, Media Studies from Freelancers, Bloggers, Traditional and Digital Practitioners to Corporate Professionals and other forms of Media Practice.
This theme for the maiden Africa Media Honours seeks to explore deeper conversations as an initiative to work with partners and stakeholders to be a driving force to accelerate and transform the media, entertainment, and advertising industry and to be more representative, progressive in the portrayal of women.
It focuses on the importance of diversity in industries and partnerships to support the creation of work that is truly progressive in its depiction and portrayal of women in Advertising, Media, and the Entertainment Industry.

“It focuses on the importance of diversity in industries and partnerships to support the creation of work that is truly progressive in its depiction and portrayal of women in Advertising, Media, and the Entertainment Industry”, he emphasized.
Mr Smith also called for women in the media space to step up for greatness to be recognized adding that “Progressive Portrayal, we trigger conversations and that is the essence of tonight”.
MD of Guinness Ghana limited, Madam Helene Weesie revealed that women's development is a priority to Guinness Ghana.
She explained further that it is the reason the company gives 6 months maternity leave to its female staff as well as one-month paternity leave to the Male staff to enable them to support their wives.
“We are the company that gives 6 months maternity to mothers and 1-month paternity to fathers so that they can have time to take care of their family “, the Guinness MD stressed.
She however indicated that the company wants to employ more women but they are not availing themselves of the opportunity.
She, therefore, called on women to make themselves available maintaining that “lets our women feel confident and step forward for the job”.
Later Oheneyere Gifty Anti -OGA and Madam Shamima Muslim all of whom received the awards, also touched on the need for women to be supported to be able to break the glass ceiling.
