It has emerged that the SIM-card number that was used to call the mother of the woman at the centre of the fake pregnancy and kidnap saga, to demand for ransom was registered in the name of “Josephine Panyin Mensah”.

The unfolding saga of Josephine Panyin Mensah, also the name of the woman who police say faked both her pregnancy and kidnap, is causing a major stir among the public.

State-owned Daily Graphic has reported that its sources close to Psychologists assigned to her indicate that Josephine finally opened up remorsefully and confessed that she faked both the kidnapping and the pregnancy after she was confronted with the reality and the implications of her actions.

The Western Regional Minister, Kwabena Okyere Darko-Mensah, revealed in the heat of the bizarre story that he was compelled to pay a ransom of GHS3,000 even though the people making the demands had demanded lesser.

This revelation caused some to ask who the ransom money was paid to.

However, in a detailed report on the matter, Daily Graphic reports that there was even an effort by detectives to catch the people who demanded the ransom red-handed.

“The police are said to have traced the [ransom] number to a location at Agona-Nkwanta, an adjoining Municipality, which sent the team of detectives to comb the entire area but Josephine had by then moved out and that it was not long before she reappeared in Axim in the Nzema East Municipality,” the report said.

Last week, Josephine Panyin Mensah was reported missing.

She was said to be nine months pregnant and went missing after stepping out for a walk.

The case was reported to the police, which commenced investigations with the hope of finding her alive and safe.

On Tuesday, September 21, 2021, five days after she went missing, Josephine was found in Axim without the pregnancy or any baby.

What rather emerged was that she delivered but her captors stole the baby.

Following police investigations, it emerged that she was never pregnant, a claim she and the immediate family vehemently disputed.

The accusation she faked the pregnancy even got members of her community angry.
