Fire has swept through some three auto parts shops and a cold store along the Kamara-Mamprobi stretch in Accra.

The inferno broke out in the early hours of Wednesday, September 11.

Eyewitnesses said, the blaze may have originated from a faulty electrical system in one of the shops, which quickly spread to other shops.

Divisional Officer 3 in charge of operations at the Dansoman Fire station, William Sackey, said that upon arrival at the scene, the fire team noticed that the main service wire close to the shops was giving off electrical shocks and had to call for backup in order to contain the fire.

He also mentioned that, a Police backup was requested when the crowd began to hinder the firefighters’ efforts.

“At around 5:45 a.m., we received a distress call about a fire near the Apostolic Church at Kamara. Our team was dispatched, and upon arrival, we found three containers ablaze, with electrical shocks from the main service wire complicating the situation.

“We quickly got to work and had to call for backup from the Circle Fire Station to provide additional pumps.

“We also realized that the growing crowd posed a potential challenge, so we called for police assistance. By 8:45 a.m., we had the fire under control.”

DO3 Sackey added that investigations are underway to determine the exact cause of the fire
