The U.S Embassy in Ghana has decided to disallow protocol allocation of visa's to high profiled personalities including, former Presidents and Members of Parliament on personal visits.
With the development, the officials would have to join ordinary Ghanaians in long queues for visa's or book a private appointment ahead of time.
US Ambassador to Ghana, Robert Jackson made the announcement during an interaction with some Members of Parliament in Accra following a letter sent to Parliament earlier.
Though the development did not sound pleasant to the Legislators, the Ambassador insisted that they consider the development as the best way to avoid state officials 'violating' their protocol visa.
"For official travels, the Embassy could allow protocol officers to secure visa's on behalf of government officials but that would not be allowed for personal travels. Even a former President of Ghana must appear in person to secure the visa,"he stated.
This he said, would make no exclusions as everybody is expected to appear personally to secure visa's for non-official travels.
This comes weeks after the UK High Commission in Ghana instituted similar measures after citing some sitting and former MPs for Visa fraud.
The Foreign Ministry has said, they would in coming days seek to find out the reasons that necessitated the decision by the US Embassy.
