To test the readiness of the Bus Rapid Transit service, a week-long free ride on selected routes is to take effect in Accra from Monday September 26, 2016.

The Greater Accra Passenger Transport Executive’s (GAPTE), Head of Marketing and Communications, Roland Bruce stated since they are the managers of the service, the free ride is to ascertain the appropriate times commuters will gain most from the new service to draw a schedule.

The buses branded with ‘Ayalolo’ insignia will operate on the Ayalolo service – Amasaman through Achimota to Circle and to the Central Business District at Tudu – before its extension to the other routes.

Despite opposition from private bus owners and their drivers of loss of income should the BRT system take effect, the Bus Rapid Transit system is expected to bring the public greater options and flexibility in road transport with over 116 buses.
