Prempeh College, a Senior High school in Kumasi in the Ashanti region has dismissed 51 students who failed in their promotional exams last term.
The students who were to repeat form-one have been asked to go home because they cannot be accommodated under the new Free SHS policy since they were fee-paying, and government no longer allows head teachers to charge fees for students at first year.
A Kumasi based radio station reports that the headmaster of Prempeh College is worried over the action but has little to do about it.
Although some of the affected students have left campus, others are yet to leave for home as they are shocked by the action.
Headteachers in other senior high schools are confused over how to treat first-year students who were repeated since they were not covered under the policy.
Under the Free SHS policy, school authorities have been directed not to take any form of fees from students who are enrolling into senior high schools across the country.
