Council of State representative of the Great Accra region, Nii Kotei Dzanie has said the Ga-Dangme people are virtually forced out of their lands by the state and must be compensated accordingly.
He said, the Ga-Dangme lands are taken to provide accommodation for Members of Parliament, Ministers of State, government officials as well as seat of government and ministries and yet no royalty is paid.
“People come to Accra to buy lands to put up structures and practically force the people out of their lands,†he said on Joy News.
“It is not because my people have disgraced themselves so much that they sell their lands as people claim but they are practically forced out,†he stated.
While on the Council of State, he said, the would put such issues before government to see how the Ga-Dangme’s can be compensated.
According to him, Ajiringano in East Legon, Accra, is supposed to be farm lands for the Nungua people but other people currently, are occupying the land and doing business on it.
Over the years, he added, there have been consultations with Ga-Dangme chiefs to see how best the issue would be resolved.
He argued that, a land belongs to the actual land owners and it is not true that the Ga-Dangme lands belongs to everybody.
He added that, the Ga-Dangme’s would be left with nowhere to go if the situation continues.
