Organised labour has suspended its planned nationwide strike which was expected to commence on Thursday 10, 2024.
The Secretary General of the Trade Union Congress (TUC) Joshua Ansah announced the development at a press briefing on Wednesday.
The decision according to Mr Ansah follows a meeting with the government and the leadership of Organised Labour on Tuesday.
The strike was to mount pressure on the government to address their demands to halt illegal mining in and around river bodies and forest reserves.
Br Ansah has explained that the government at the meeting offered series of measures it intends to implement as part of efforts to combat the menace of illegal mining in the country.
“The meeting resolved that the measures announced by government were not adequate in addressing our demands and stopping the dangers posed by illegal mining. We, therefore, affirmed the strike notice and informed the Government accordingly.
“The meeting discussed at length Organised Labours’ response to the earlier measures announced by Government. Following this meeting, government offered enhanced and time-bound measures in respect of our demands and the fight against illegal mining,” portions of a statement from Organised Labour read.
All members have therefore been directed to report to work on October 10 and beyond while the union continues to monitor the implementation of government’s proposed policies.
