The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG) has instructed its members to call off their ongoing strike by October 29, 2024.

This directive follows several weeks of industrial action by UTAG members across public universities, which has caused significant disruptions to academic activities nationwide.

UTAG began the strike on October 10, 2024, in response to the government’s perceived inaction on illegal mining (galamsey), which has severely impacted river bodies and forest reserves.

In a statement, the NEC called on UTAG members to return to the classroom, while tertiary students are expected to resume classes on November 1, 2024.
