Ghana @61 - The Republic of Ghana on Tuesday, March 6, 2017, turned 61 years since it attained independence from the British after over 100 years of colonial rule.
Formerly known as the Gold Coast, Ghana was the first Sub-Saharan African country to attain independence on the back of Ghana’s first President and his Pan-African ethos, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.
The celebration was marked with a parade by officers and men drawn from the Armed Forces and various Security Services as well as teachers and students from first and second cycle institutions in the Accra Metropolise. The celebration under the theme "Ghana beyond Aid" took place at the iconic Black Star Square, and was attended by members of the various arms of government, members of the diplomatic corps, other notable dignitaries and the general public.
