The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has dismissed claims that its Chief of Army Staff was attacked in Bawku, as suggested in two viral videos.

A statement signed by Brigadier General E. Aggrey-Quarshie, Director General of Public Relations, and copied to the Ghana News Agency, said the video claims were false and should be disregarded.

“The attention of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has been drawn to two videos that have gone viral on social media alleging the Chief of the Army Staff (COAS), Major General Lawrence Kwaku Gbetanu has been attacked in Bawku.”

“COAS’ operational visit to Bawku on Wednesday, April 23, 2025, was successful, and no negative incident was recorded,” the statement said.

It added that efforts are underway to track the originators of the videos to face legal action.

GAF cautioned bloggers, content creators, and media outlets to be mindful in reporting on military operations, particularly in Bawku, as misinformation could worsen the security situation.

It urged all stakeholders to work together to restore normalcy to Bawku and its surroundings.
