Foreign Affairs Ministry nominee, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has appealed to the United States (US) government to reconsider its withdrawal from the Paris Climate Accord.

He described the decision as a setback to global efforts in combating Climate Change.

“Let me register our unhappiness at the latest withdrawal by the United States of America from the Paris Climate Accord. That was a very key intervention in the climate change agenda,” he stated.

Speaking during his vetting by the Appointments Committee on Friday, January 31, Mr Ablakwa highlighted Ghana’s active role in climate negotiations.

He further noted that the US’ withdrawal has disrupted international cooperation on climate action but reaffirmed Ghana’s commitment to advocating for a stronger global approach.

“That has clearly created a disruption, but we will continue to urge our big brothers and sisters to come back to the Climate Change agenda,” he said.

Mr Ablakwa emphasised the need for the international community to remain united in tackling Climate Change.

He urged world leaders to commit to a new global order that prioritises climate action, ensuring a sustainable future for all nations.
