The Chairperson of Planning Committee of GIJ @60, Dr. Lawrencia Agyepong says the Institute is aimed at providing students with the relevant tools to be well versed in the area of communication and also equip students to meet industry demands.

Dr. Agyepong at the 60th Anniversary launch said ''We realized that specialization is significant and providing the relevant tools for them to be equipped and well versed in the industry is important. That is where the digital hub comes in, we want to make sure that the products the products that come out from the school are not academically sound but they also have the practical hands-on training and meet industry demands''.

Commenting on the 60th anniversary,the Planning Committee Chairperson told PrimeNewsGhana that ''With our 60th anniversary, we decided on two projects, one about the digital media hub to raise funds and the second is the endowment fund is that it gives us the ability to plan for the long term because every developing university need a lot of resources, we are trying to set it up to get the resources needed for the future development of the institution''. 

Dr. Agyepong who doubles as the Head of Research and Acting head of the department of communication emphasized that the institution want to use the anniversary to do more, and that before the launch, Rector of GIJ, Prof. Kwamina Aidoo went on visitation with various stakeholders including those in the industry to dialogue with them about what the institution can do to make sure that products of GIJ come ready for use at the industry level.

She added that the digital hub will facilitate students and the institution will make sure products of the school will be trained in camera handling, radio and television presentation, online services, conducting interviews and digital print adding that these will enable students to fit into the job market.
