The newly appointed Registrar of the Births and Deaths Registry, Samuel Adom Botchway, is set to be reassigned.
This follows concerns raised by the Civil and Local Government Staff Association of Ghana (CLOGSAG) about his appointment.
CLOGSAG had on Thursday, February 13 declared a nationwide strike in protest against his appointment as a politically exposed person.
The announcement in a statement called on its members to lay down tools from Thursday, 20th February, 2025 until further notice if Samuel Adom Botchway's appointment is not reversed.
“We call on all CLOGSAG members to stay at home from Thursday, 20th February 2025 until further notice,” the statement stated.
Following the threat, the government has moved swiftly to resolve the matter.
In a statement on Friday, February 14, Minister of State in charge of Government Communications, Kwakye Ofosu confirmed that the issue had been addressed and Mr Botchway will be reassigned to a different role
“In the truest spirit of cooperation and understanding, we are happy to announce that the matter has been resolved and there will be no nationwide strike by CLOGSAG,” he stated.
He further noted that a similar situation had been set by the previous administration, which remains a subject of judicial review. “We have learnt that the precedent that was set by the outgone government of appointing a non-civil servant to that position remains a pending matter in the courts,” he added.
“The Government of President Mahama remains committed to being a listening one as we together reset our nation,” Kwakye Ofosu concluded.
