The the Information Minister has revealed government plans to embark on a 'Values Campaign' meant to educate Ghanaians on the negative effects of certain values on the development of the nation.
Speaking at the Chartered Institute of Marketing Ghana (CIMG) Annual Marketing Conference on Wednesday, Mustapha Hamid stated that the campaign will soon roll out to ensure that citizens change the negative attitudes which are often overlooked, yet are gravely affecting the nation.
"There are certain subtle aspects of our national life which cannot be quantified in monetary terms. The man-hours and rate of productivity lost from negative attitudes such as lateness are not quantified hence we tend to overlook it", he said.
The minister explained that the values campaign is meant to create awareness of attitudinal issues of citizens that affect development such as punctuality, littering, patriotism, absenteeism and many others.
He added, that "when we litter our environments, the cost of these actions to our nation; the investors and tourists who will not venture into the country, the increased number of people who die from diseases caused by filth, and the monies lost from solving these problems have been overlooked".
He also bemoaned marketers and industry players who were present at the CIMG conference to invest in business activities that will bring about positive transformation in the mindsets of Ghanaians.
The 2017 edition of Annual Marketing Conference which was based on the theme, Cause-related marketing: A Panacea for National Behavioural Change", was to imbibe in marketers the need for their activities to be shifted towards transforming the negative behaviours of consumers to solve societal problems.
