The Ministry of Health has officially launched and disseminated the Nursing and Midwifery Strategic Plan and Services Framework 2024-2028 in Accra.
The New Strategic Plan underscores Government’s commitment to building on the progress made by implementing the old strategic plan for 2019-2023 and pushing forward towards the goal of quality healthcare for all Ghanaians.
The Nursing and Midwifery Strategic Plan and Services Framework 2024-2028 was launched on August 8, 2024 under the theme, “Sustaining the gains to accelerate the achievement of Universal Health Coverage”.
Speaking during the launch on behalf of the Minister for Health, Dr Okoe-Boye, the Deputy Minister of Health, Alexander Akwasi Acquah, emphasized that the nursing and midwifery strategic plan for Ghana outlines a comprehensive roadmap for the development of these professions over the coming years.
It also seeks to address the current challenges faced by nurses and midwives, while setting ambitious goals for the advancement of the profession.
“The Strategic Plan for Nursing and Midwifery professions will further empower them by curbing the brain drain situation in the country, as the initiative will be setting ambitious goals for the advancement of their professional work” he said.
“The plan also addresses several critical areas based on the WHO strategic directions, with additional focus areas tailored to Ghana’s specific needs after the end-of-cycle evaluation of the old strategic plan which, includes Education, Jobs, Service Delivery, Leadership, Data Governance, Research and Innovations, and Partnerships and Collaboration”, the Deputy Minister for Health, Alexander Akwasi Acquah added.
