Former President John Jerry Rawlings has said he does not hate the National Democratic Congress(NDC)  but rather the level of corruption exhibited when the party was in power.

Speaking at the durbar of the Asafotufiami festival in Ada on Saturday, he said, some bad practices of the NDC has left a bad legacy which the current government is struggling to fix.

"I will praise the NDC when necessary and also criticize them when they go wrong. This does not mean I hate the party", he stated.

According to Mr. Rawlings, governance is not about making false promises but ensuring that citizens are comfortable.

He applauded President Nana Akufo-Addo for putting his Presidency on the line and pursuring the fight against Galamsey.

"I am very impressed with the President's commitment to the fight against Galamsey and must be commended for accepting to end the canker despite the consequences."

He added that, it is very unusual for a President to also ask Parliament to exercise its power over the executive but the President is willing to allow such initiative.

On the issue of illegal fishing which is having an adverse effect on the fishing community at Ada, he said government must be able to address issues that affect the lives of its people rather than making unrealistic promises.

"It is irresponsible, corrupt and stupid for the government to give license to several fishing vessels which is affecting the livelihood of the some local people who depend on fishing to survive", he stated.

The laws of the country he said, must work and government must put measures in place to put the country on the path of development.
