Former Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, has expressed heartfelt appreciation to Ghanaians, the government, and the Ghana Police Service following the official announcement of his replacement.

In a statement issued on March 14, 2025, Dr. Dampare thanked God and the people of Ghana for their unwavering support, prayers, and goodwill throughout his tenure.

He described the overwhelming outpouring of love from across the country particularly in the 24 hours after his removal—as deeply moving and humbling.

“I’m immensely grateful for the blessings and support I received during my time as IGP,” he stated.

Dr. Dampare extended special appreciation to former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for appointing him to lead the Police Service, noting with pride that the appointment made him the youngest IGP in Ghana’s Fourth Republic.

He also acknowledged President John Dramani Mahama for the cordial working relationship they shared in the final stages of his tenure, commending the continued support from national leadership in strengthening the police service.

The former IGP praised religious and traditional leaders for their guidance, prayers, and wise counsel, describing their contributions as “indispensable” to his leadership.

He also commended sister security agencies for their collaboration in maintaining law and order across the country.

Dr. Dampare further thanked civil society organizations for their constructive engagement and contributions to police reforms, as well as the international community and diplomatic partners for their consistent support, partnerships, and external reviews that helped shape the evolution of the Police Service.

Reflecting on his 35-year journey in law enforcement, Dr. Dampare described his rise from General Constable to IGP as an extraordinary privilege and an honour to serve the nation.

“I am deeply thankful for the opportunity to serve the Ghana Police Service over the past 35 years—starting as a General Constable and rising through the ranks to become the youngest Commissioner of Police and the youngest IGP in the Fourth Republic.”

He paid tribute to the Police Management Board (POMAB) and officers across all ranks, applauding their dedication and commitment to ensuring national security and public safety.

“The tireless efforts of the rank and file have played a critical role in preserving peace, law, and order during my tenure,” he said.

Although he exits the role of IGP, Dr. Dampare emphasized that his passion for national service remains undiminished.

“I have devoted 35 of my nearly 55 years to serving Ghana with discipline, integrity, and honour. I remain energetic and committed to contributing to the growth and development of our country in any capacity.”
