Deputy General Secretary of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Koku Anyidoho says he is not surprised President Akufo-Addo nominated the Executive Director of the Institute of Economic Affairs, (IEA) Jean Adukwei Mensa, as the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC).
He said Mrs. Jean Adukwei Mensa “was born in the manger of the New Patriotic Party (NPP)â€, hence the decision by the President to nominate her.
President Akufo-Addo on Monday July 23, 2018, announced the nomination of the Executive Director of the Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA), Jean Adukwei Mensa, as the new Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC).
Other persons nominated were Samuel Tettey and Dr Eric Asare Bossman who are Deputy Chairpersons and Ms Adwoa Asuama Abrefa, a Member of Commission.

A statement signed by the Chief of Staff, Frema Opare-Osei said Akufo-Addo, explained that President Akufo-Addo “sought the advice of the Council of State in accordance with Article 70(2) of the Constitution, for the appointment of a new Chairperson, two Deputy Chairpersons and a Member of the Electoral Commission (EC)â€.
Reacting to the nominations on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen on Monday, the NDC Deputy General Secretary said: “I am not surprise because if he [President] does something that will be a topical issue, then he brings in another thing to cover up the topical oneâ€.

Koku Anyidoho said “the nomination of Jean Mensah has vindicates the position of the NDC that the former EC Chairperson, Mrs. Charlotte Osei, was removed undemocraticallyâ€.
He said the in a round up to the election 2016, Jean Mensah and IEA took a certain posture towards the then EC Chairperson, Mrs Charlotte Osei and “was she [Jean Mensah] jealous about the Charlotte Osei’s appointment?â€
He said the Finance Minister presented the budget review which people are debating about it and so this is a diversionary tactic by the President to divert attention from the budget review debates.

“We shall talk about this but we will not forget the budget issue because he [President] is very predictable. If you like, I can predict to you what he will do next week. I can tell you off airâ€, Koku told Ekosii Sen host.
