Chief Justice Georgina Wood succeeded Justice George Kingsley Acquah in 2007, to become the first female head of Ghana's judiciary. She retires on June 8, 2017 after about 47 years of faithful public service.

With exactly a month before she bows out, conversations about her replacement pitch Justices Jones Dotse and Anin Yeboah as frontrunners.

Both are said to have powerful lobbyists working behind the scenes in their interest.

Some analyst put Justice Dotse ahead, as he is believed be the preferred choice of stalwarts in the legal fraternity and many within the ruling New Patriotic Party's (NPP) legal and constitutional committee.

Coming from the Volta Region, his supporters believe his appointment could ethnically balance the top hierarchy of the political system, gaining the NPP some leverage in the Volta Region.

There would be Akan as President, a Northerner Vice President, a Ga as Speaker of Parliament, and a Chief Justice from Volta.

Justice Dotse has been deemed by some quarters to be pro-NPP and is well remembered for coining the term "create, loot and share" to describe the circumstances under which Alfred Agbesi Woyome was paid wrongfully GHC51million by the state.
