The “Kalyppo craze” or “Kalyppo challenge” which has enveloped social media in recent days is showing no sign of relenting as many more people are sharing pictures of themselves sipping Kalyppo on social media.

Many politicians and civil society organisations have also joined in the fun, which has become a good form of publicity for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) with barely two months to the December elections.

The “Kalyppo” craze was sparked after Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, the NPP flagbearer, was pictured sipping Kalyppo.

The picture was shared on Facebook with a view to mock the 72-year-old NPP leader as a weak man who still drinks Kalyppo at his age. But the plan fired, as the picture inspired many people to post pictures of themselves drinking Kalyppo on social media.

Top NPP politicians such as vice-presidential candidate, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, acting chairman, Freddy Blay, and acting general secretary, Jon Boadu, have all participated in the Kalyppo challenge.

The president of Imani Ghana, Franklin Cudjoe, also shared pictures showing him drinking Kalyppo.
