Senior Vice President of IMANI Africa, Kofi Bentil has outlined some reasons for which he believed the Computerised School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS) is failing to serve its purpose of placing JHS graduates.

Speaking on Joy FM's news analysis programme 'NewsFile', Kofi Bentil blamed politics for the major issues being faced by JHS students for their placement in the various secondary schools in the country.

Commenting on the recent problems with the CSSPS which now requires students to do self-placement, Kofi Bentil said the change of software by politicians anytime there is a change in government has brought all these problems.

According to him, the initial software was working well even though it was not fully addressing the issues.

"One major point is politics, we inserted our politics and damaged the system, the original system which was not perfect but very good and so far the original system has been the best.."

Kofi Bentil stated that the new software is fake making it difficult for the Education Ministry to make progress while they spend a lot of time on fixing the software.

Responding to issues of too much human interference, Kofi Benti said this is clearly a period for some staff at the CSSPS to make money at the expense of the whole country.

"I think the government didn't give much attention to the system. The situation is what it is because it is the cocoa season for some people working there. Let us not make a mystery out of the placement system."

SHS placement challenges

Most JHS graduates have complained about how they are unable to get the various schools they have selected for placement.

Some complained about how far the system has placed them away from home, which they never opted for during the school selection period. Some of the JHS graduates do not have a placement at all.

These concerns have made the Education Ministry provide an opportunity for a self-placement for the students, the system crash but was later restored.

The Education Ministry further advised parents and students to be calm as all issues will soon be addressed.
