The Korle Bu Teaching Hospital as part of efforts to ensure that patients are allocated beds at all times, have initiated a Bed Management Policy at the facility.
The Policy would help hospital management to keep account of all beds at the various units of the facility which would go a long way to addressing  challenges of lack of beds for patients.
Over the years, the hospital has been faced with the challenge of turning away patients due to the unavailability of beds to accommodate them. In some critical situations, patients are treated at the pavements till beds are available.
The policy has began with a pilot at the Medicals Department of the hospital with the software for the policy developed by Stanbic Bank Ghana.
According to the Chief Executive Director of the hospital, Dr Felix Anyah, the software would go a long way to save lives at the hospital.
"This is an efficient and modern bed management policy which would allow patients to be treated at various units in times of emergencies and be transferred to the appropriate units later when beds are available,"he stated.
The Policy, he said, should be implemented in other hospitals to ensure that the issue of unavailability of beds become a thing of the past.
