President John Dramani Mahama has assigned the Minister for Interior, Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka, additional responsibilities as the Acting National Security Minister.
The decision by the president is in accordance with Section 24 of the Securities and Intelligence Act 2020 (Act 1030).
This was formally communicated to Parliament by Speaker Alban Bagbin during proceedings on Friday, March 7, 2025.
He is expected to oversee national security operations alongside his duties as interior minister.
In the letter, President Mahama stated, “I convey to the House that I have assigned ministerial responsibility for national security to the Minister of the Interior, Hon. Mohammed-Muntaka Mubarak.”
The move is expected to ensure seamless coordination between the Interior Ministry and national security agencies, fostering a more integrated approach to addressing security challenges.
