President John Mahama has visited the Adum Central Market in Kumasi, where a devastating fire broke out in the early hours of Friday, March 21.
The President, who was accompanied by Ashanti Regional Minister Dr. Frank Amoakohene, received a briefing from the Ghana National Fire Service and promised to support the affected individuals.
“I have directed NADMO to assist affected traders, that is in the interim. We will also discuss with the Chief of staff together with the Ashanti Regional Minister to also support the traders.
He also cautioned the traders not to cook in the market as the use of cylinders were a contributing factor to the incident.
Mahama had been in the region to launch the Tree for Life Reforestation Initiative at Nkawie.
Meanwhile, the fire which started early Friday morning and quickly spread through the market, was fueled by flammable materials stored in the shops.
Firefighters faced challenges in containing the blaze due to obstructed access routes and delayed response times.
