PRESEC Legon and KNUST SHS have been kicked out of the National Science and Maths Quiz Competition after Mfantsipim School won the first contest of the quarter-final stage of the 2018 NSMQ.
 The contest, which took place at the University of Ghana Business School on Thursday, June 28 took a historic turn as PRESEC could not overcome Mfantsipim School, even though is PRESEC is deemed the most successful school at the NSMQ with five (5) trophies to their credit.
KNUST SHS was also unable to pull through to the semi-final stage, even though in 2016, they managed to oust PRESEC boys in the one-eighth stage.
At the end of the contest, Mfantsipim School scored 50 points, while PRESEC Legon secured 34 points, and KNUST SHS scored 20 points.
With the introduction of the GCB Bank's Money Zone, each point of the competing schools at the quarter-final stage is worth Five Ghana Cedis(GHS5), which will be paid out to each of the three competitors and their teacher.
Thus Mfantsipim school will receive in GH¢1000 in total, while PRESEC Legon and KNUST SHS will go home with GH¢680 and GH¢400 respectively.
The Quarter Finals stage spans from June 28th- June 30, and Semi-Finals on July 2, 2018.
The Grand Finale of the NSMQ 2018 will be held on Thursday, July 5, 2018.
