The Minister for Food and Agriculture Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, has called on all senior high schools in the country to promote the Food Farms For Schools (FOFAS) which is under government’s Planting for Food and Jobs program.
Okuapeman Senior High School in Akropong, launched a year ago Food Farms For Schools initiative to help school authorities use available lands to farm.
Applauding St.Peters Senior High School (Persco) in Nkwatia-Kwahu for cultivating over 20 acres under the Food Farms For Schools program, Afriyie Akoto called on all senior high school heads to engage the students in farming to motivate more youth to get into agriculture.“The Food Farms For Schools is a national program, and Eastern Region is doing very well, I launched the program here in the region and last year 2017 only 6 schools engaged in it but this year a total of 26 schools are fully on board, and it is impressive with St. Peters cultivating 20 acres alreadyâ€.

“I hope other regions will take a cue from this and encourage the schools to participate because it is a good source of income for the school and also gives them a positive mindset and attitude to farming. There is a whole directorate under my ministry called Youth in Agriculture working with youth in all the country, so this initiative will help us catch them young and let them know farming is a decent venture so all school heads should encourage and support the Food Farms For Schools programâ€.
