Media company, Multimedia Group Ltd, has issued a statement to explain why its CEO visited legislator, Ken Agyapong, in a bid to discredit a fast-spreading allegation first publicised by the legislator.

The Assin North parliamentarian had alleged on his TV station recently that Multimedia Group's CEO, Kwasi Twum, came to his office to caution him that journalists at Multimedia Group had decided to sabotage the Nana Akufo-Addo government because they were not being given money.

The known rabble-rousing politician also alleged that journalists of the popular media conglomerate have been bought by a close relative of the President and stalwart of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko.

The NPP Member of Parliament also made other serious claims against the journalists of the Multimedia Group Ltd which sought to impugn their credibility.

However, a statement issued by lawyers for Multimedia Group Ltd, A-Partners @ Law, explained that although the CEO of the Multimedia Group met with Ken Agyapong, the purpose of that meeting was official.

“…the reference to a meeting with the CEO is accurate only to the extent of a brief discussion over a petition against the move in 2017, to reduce transmission coverage radius, of certain radio stations to 45km. This petition, delivered to and received by the Ministry of Communications on May 11, 2018, was issued and signed by Management of ten radio stations, including KENCITY MEDIA LTD’s OMAN FM. A copy, used in court on the subject, is attached hereto for the avoidance of doubt,” the statement explained.

“Neither did the CEO step out of his known character and established professional business conduct, to discuss anything personal, nor such as, separately privately concerned Joy FM/MGL as a business and certainly never a word about the falsely alleged concerns of its staff,” the statement added.

Also, regarding the presence of journalists from the Multimedia Group Ltd at the home Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko, the statement explained that the journalists did not go there for any of the malicious claims by the MP.

According to the statement, one of the reasons for the presence of the journalists’ at Gabby’s house was for a meeting “seeking an interview with then candidate Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo ahead of the 2016 general elections.”

The statement also advised against republication of the malicious allegations by the MP.
