Muslims in Ghana will today join the rest of the Islamic world to celebrate Eid ul-Fitr which marks the end of the Islamic holy month of Ramadan..Â
The National Chief Imam and other Muslims are expected to gather at the Independence Square to commemorate the day which ends the 30 day fast of Ramadan.
A number of celebrations are also expected to be organized across the country to mark today’s holiday.
The Vice president Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has called on all Muslims to use the Eid al-Fitr occasion to pray for peace, unity and prosperity in Ghana.
He also charged  Muslims to rededicate themselves to “the service of the Almighty, to the service of humanity and to the service of our nation, Ghanaâ€.
In an Eid Mubarak message to Ghanaians, he said: “This is indeed a great occasion to show gratitude to the Almighty Allah for taking us through a very successful period of fasting and to show kindness to our fellow human beings.â€
Former President Jerry John Rawlings and his wife, Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, has congratulated Muslims for a successful month of fasting and prayer.
In in a statement, he said it's their prayer that as Muslims  break the fast they will continue to seek Allah’s guidance and blessings not only for our families, friends and communities but for the good of Ghana so we can forge ahead as a people in peace and tranquillity.
