Police in Accra have re-arrested the General Overseer of Glorious Word Power Ministry International, Reverend Owusu Bempah on Wednesday.

The ‘Nation’s Prophet’, as he is popularly called due to his friendship with the President and other power players within government, has been arrested again after state prosecutors asked the court to release him and two others.

Rev Owusu Bempah and two of his aides – or junior pastors – are in the grips of the police for threatening to kill Evangelist Patricia Asiedu, formerly known as Nana Agradaa.

With his re-arrest, police are expected to hit him and his accomplices with new charges.

State Prosecutors led by Chief Inspector Dennis Terkpetey asked the court on Wednesday to discharge the accused persons with an indication that plans were afoot to press new charges.

Once the court granted this request, they were arrested.

It will be the third time police are bringing charges against the popular pastor.

Police prosecutors filed new charges against him and two others after withdrawing the very first charges which were dismissed by the court.

The pastor and the other two persons, namely Bright Berchie and Mensah Ofori, have been on trial since September after they created and circulated multiple videos containing alleged threats, brandishing of a weapon as well as assault on some police personnel.

The three were granted bail to the tune of GHS 200,000 last week with two sureties each.

Police first arrested the trio on Sunday, September 12, 2021, for their alleged crimes.

The police pointed that they were also arrested for brandishing of a weapon, as well as assault, on some police personnel who were injured and currently on medical treatment.

According to the police, the suspects were arrested “after critically analysing the said videos and based on intelligence gathered”.
