National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) says it is saddened by endorsement of vigilantism by the General Secretary of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia.
The NCCE said the endorsement was contrary to nationwide condemnation of political party vigilantism prior to the 2016 general election.
Mr. Asiedu Nketia reportedly endorsed the formation of vigilante groups within the party, “the Hawksâ€.
The Hawks were oudoored by the failed Ashanti Regional Chairman, Joseph Yamin, who stormed the election venue with these heavily built macho men.
Other groups were also spotted in other NDC elections venues last weekend.
The Ashanti Regional Director of NCCE, Wilson Arthur, reacting to the issue on Accra based Neat FM which was monitored by PrimeNewsGhana said; vigilantism will not promote national peace and security.
“It is very wrong to hear about this vigilantism in political parties. We need these political parties to promote peace because vigilantism will only create chaos and not promote peace and securityâ€, he said.
Mr. Arthur advised political parties to use their influence to promote adherence to peace.
