Member of Parliament (MP) for Talensi in the Upper East Region, Benson Tongo Baba has been indicted by the National Security for involvement in illegal mining (galamsey) activities in the constituency.

In a report from the National Security to the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources on the activities of illegal miners in the country, the NDC MP was found with five others to be behind 'galamsey' activities in the constituency.

Their activities, the report stated, have been largely based in the towns of Buing, Datoko and Bani along the White Volta.

According to the report, parts of which were read on Joy FM, out of the 10 regions, only the Greater Accra and Volta Regions could be said to be without any 'galamsey' activities.

The report also indicated that many traditional rulers including paramount chiefs were behind the illegal mining activities in the areas where the menace is prevalent.
