Former Spokesperson of Armed Force Revolutionary Council (AFRC), Major (rtd) Kwadwo Boakye Djan, has cautioned the NDC to build the party structures beyond individuals in order to remain relevant in the future.

According to him, all indications point to the fact that a major contributory factor to the party’s defeat in the 2016 elections, was the side-lining of founder Jerry Rawlings.

This shows the party to a large extent, is still built around the whims and caprices of Mr Rawlings, and could not survive if the founder is no more

Major (rtd) Boakye-Djan, believes the time has come for the NDC to draw people to its core values than personalization. It should re-orient members on the values of accountability, probity, and social justice as a guide ahead of the 2020 general election.

Citing an example from Ghana’s history, the retired major said the longest political party in Ghana, the Convention People Party was built around Dr. Nkrumah and since his demise the CPP has never been relevant to Ghana’s political history again.

“Kwame Nkrumah died and the Convention People’s Party (CPP) is wallowing in the gutter. Limann died and the People’s National Convention (PNC) is struggling, so we should be careful not to personalize an institution that will survive us long into history…in the interest of renewing

Major (rtd) Kwadow Boakye Gyan who was speaking on Accra based Citi Fm, however does not agree with suggestions NDC has outgrown the founder. He stressed he would continue to remain relevant in his lifetime.
