The Ghana Immigration Service is set to repatriate spokesperson for the New Force political movement, Shalimar Abbiusi.

According to the Service, she’s due for repatriation later today.

Speaking to Abbiusi's parents, her lawyer Xavier Sosu explained to them that the GIS "has revoked her permit period."

This was after an alleged false declaration to secure student permit was withdrawn by Prosecutors on Tuesday, December 19.

The Magistrate at the Kaneshie District Court Her Worship Nana Abena Owusu-Amenyo has also directed that the National Investigations Bureau release Abuissi’s iPhone 13 Pro that was seized during her arrest since nothing incriminating was found upon thorough check.

However, Abuissi was rearrested outside the court premises by the GIS.

This led to an eruption of chaos between her legal representatives and the Immigration officers who had come to whisk her away.

Shalimar Abbiusi was last week granted bail in the sum of GHc20,000 with two sureties by the Kaneshie District Court.

Background

Shalimar Abbiusi was detained by the National Investigation Bureau when she was invited as part of the Bureau’s steps to identify the persons behind the movement’s formation.

According to the movement, Ms Abbiusi was summoned for a discussion on Monday, December 4, 2023 and "never released thereafter".

The Belgian national was accused of violating section 52 (1) (i) of the Immigration Act 2000 (Act 573), specifically "Obtaining for Yourself a Student Permit by False Declaration."

The New Force in a statement on Thursday, December 7, expressed deep concern about the arrest of Ms. Abbiusi adding that it is a violation of her human rights.

Regarding her resident permit, the group said it was facilitated and issued to her over three years ago by the Ghana Immigration Service but the authorities are now claiming that one of the documents she submitted could not be verified and demand that she be held in custody pending investigations.

They further called on the international community to monitor these “developments, emphasizing the need for a swift and just resolution.”
