President of the Ghana Journalist Association (GJA), Roland Affail Monney says a new code of ethics for journalists has been formulated.
According to him, the new rules make use of ethical standards journalists will be held by in relation to traditional and even new media.
He stated, new sanctions have also been introduced to regulate conduct of practitioners including expulsions when found guilty.
The GJA President however stressed, a conscious effort will be made to educate members on the new standards so they could appreciate the new regime before it takes effect.
A few erring journalists who defamed public figures have been sued in court with aggrieved plaintiffs demanding huge compensation sums. It is perhaps to streamline the sector that such new rules have been formulated.
