Special Prosecutor, Kissi Agyebeng, has revealed plans to have a holding cell included in the structure of his office complex.
Mr Agyebeng said this holding cell will be part of the 10-storey building he intends to relocate to as soon as possible.
The 10-storey building, according to him, was offered by the state about two years ago.
The holding cell will serve the purpose of temporarily keeping suspects pending charges, trial or sentencing.
The new office complex will also have a sickbay.
Kissi Agyebeng, who has replaced Martin Amidu for the top job, made these revelations when officials from the Department of Justice and the International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL) of the United States Embassy paid a courtesy call on him on Wednesday, 1 September 2021, in Accra.
Mr Agyebeng said his office was getting ready to recruit to ramp up staff numbers.
He indicated that new recruitment fill gaps in areas of intelligence, investigations, prosecution and asset tracing and recovery.
Mr Agyebeng has said his office was understaffed and there was an urgent need to fix that.
He told the Attorney-General, Godfred Dame, that substantial logistical and staffing support were needed from the Attorney General’s department in the interim, as it takes steps to permanently staff that critical anti-corruption institution.
US Embassy Resident Legal Advisor, Bill Houser, who spoke on behalf of the delegation on September 1, said Mr Agyebeng was the ideal man for the job because of his rich academic exploits and experience.
Houser further pledged the US government’s support for the Office of the SP.
