The 2016 West African Senior School Certificate Examinations(WASSCE) and the Basic Education Certificate Examinations(BECE) has recorded no leakages according to the Ministry of Education.

Speaking at the meet-the-press session in Accra, Minister of Education, Prof. Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang said the outfit is proud that this year’s examinations have been successfully and there were no issues of cancellation usually caused by leakages.

“Our efforts to reduce leakages is yielding great results as in 2016, both BECE and WASSCE recorded no leakages at all. Kudos to the West African Examination Council(WAEC) and everybody who ensured that,” she stated.

She added that, majority of the public did not know the exams were even taking place and that is the way it should be.

The ministry she added would continue to ensure sanity in the examination system and also give equal opportunity to every student to write by encouraging them to rewrite if they fail at first attempt.

“As a means of giving opportunity to more Junior High graduates to have access to secondary education, a total number of 1,181 and 1,413 candidates took advantage of the first and second BECE resit program in order to improve on their performance,” she stressed.

Many of those graduates she announced have been mainstreamed into the SHS and therefore have the chance to upgrade themselves.

The WAEC has employed stringent measure to avoid leakages in the BECE and WASSCE questions following leakages that occurred in 2015.
