This year’s Farmers Day set to be observed on Friday, November 4, has not been designated as a public holiday.
A statement signed by the Interior Minister, Prosper Bani however notified the public that "the statutory Farmers Day holiday which falls on Friday, 2nd December, 2016, would be declared a public holiday appropriately."
Farmers Day is being marked earlier than the statutory day because of the general elections which is slated for December 7.
Ghana is said to have a consumption deficit of over 550,000 metric tonnes.
This year’s commemoration has the theme: ‘Agriculture: A Business Response to Economic Growth’.
Reports suggest Ghana has a total cultivatable land area of about 14 million hectares. 7.8 million of which has been cultivated indicating there’s room to  increase the country’s Gross Domestic Growth.
