Ghana’s High Commissioner to the UK under the Mahama administration seems not to be over his dismissal as an aide to former President J.J Rawlings.

Emmanuel Victor Smith is still reeling over the actions of his former boss who fired him from his position as Director of Public Affairs in 2008 with just a text message.

The text also directed Mr Smith to organise a press conference immediately to announce his own dismissal

It was believed at that time that the dramatic action was precipitated by a standoff between Mr. Smith and former first lady Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings, following a Daily Guide report that the flagbearer of the NDC, Prof John Atta Mills, had chosen John Mahama as running mate.

The publication which caused outraged within the NDC was republished by the Weekly Standard newspaper believed to be edited by Mr. Smith.

Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme on Friday, Victor Smith said he is still hurt by his abrupt dismissal, especially the circulation of the text message sacking him to the press by Mr Rawlings. When asked if he will ever get over the incident, Victor Smith retorted “I’m not sure”.

The former High Commissioner continued that Mr Rawlings further incensed him by getting close to then opposition NPP during the 2016 elections.

“I saw it on national television, just three weeks to elections and he [Rawlings] was cracking jokes and laughing with our opponent. “We were preparing to go to war and our commander-in-chief was seen hobnobbing with the opponent. I’m pained” he lamented.

Mr. Smith who was the National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) parliamentary candidate for Abuakwa North said majority of party members were demoralised seeing their founder supporting their main opponent.
