Members of the Coalition of Unemployed Private Nurses have announced their intention to picket today July 31, at the Ministry of Health (MoH) over the failure of the government to employ them,  several years after they graduated from the various private colleges of health.
The group on July 17 postponed a  planned demonstration to today, with the hope that government would use the window to address their concerns over employment. They claim the state is discriminating against them in an ongoing posting of health sector workers, in spite of several assurances that they will be posted.
General Secretary of the Coalition, Emmanuel Nanor said about 11,000 workers were posted by the Ministry and out of that, no private nurse was a part. He added that the inability of government to post their members demonstrates the lack of commitment to its(government) own pledge.Â
Mr Nanor warned the situation has the potential to stifle the development and growth of private nursing institutions and pile much more pressure on public ones because potential students would prefer the public schools, where employment after graduation is somewhat assured.
