Some pensioners are suggesting that the Social Security and National Insurance Trust(SSNIT) should be scrapped following the recent scandal that has hit the Trust.
According to a former General Secretary of the Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools (CHASS) and Pensioner Felix Essar Hianu, the recent development has draged the name of SSNIT into disrepute and Board Members must immediately deal with the issue or scrap the entity.
SSNIT has been in the news for the controversial purchase of a software-digital Operationalization project (OBS project) at a cost of $72 million.
Speaking on Accra-based Citi FM, Mr. Hianu said workers are facing economic challenges in the country but manage to squeeze out their contributions, only to realize that their monies are being wasted.

"In the heat of what is happening, every pensioner is angry because apart from the fact that their contributions are not safe, it is clear people are wasting their monies. So it is better the outfit is scrapped so they decide what to use their monies for," he stated.

He is demanding a thorough briefing by the Board of SSNIT on how their monies are being spent and how they intend to tackle the current situation.
"We need to know what is going on so that we could make a good decision. A possible decision to be taken is to scrap the outfit if not convinced that our contributions are not put to a good use,"he stressed.
Pensioners he said, are currently disappointed with SSNIT as the amount for the so-called software is untenable and scary. He is also calling for the heads of the people in charge during the purchase of the software when it's established they misappropriated funds.
He added the criminal aspects of the issue must be pursued to serve as deterrent to others who wish to dip their hands into the public purse.
