The Accra Tema Motorway has been left in a dangerous state filled with deadly potholes due to lack of repair works on the road.

The road which forms part of the N1 freeway starts from Aflao in the Volta region and ends in Elubo in the Western Region.

It is also part of the Trans-West African highway(Abidjan- Lagos Corridor) and links the capital city Accra to the Kotoka International Airport and the Tema Port.

The Ministry of Roads and Highways recently announced that government was in the process of awarding contracts for the repair of about 253 roads which are in a deplorable state nationwide.

In October 2013 also, the government announced the expansion of the Accra-Tema motorway into six lanes with an interchange at the Tema roundabout to ease traffic.

For the past four years, however, the state of the road remains the same. At least 500 deadly potholes are scattered on the road, making a journey as perilous as it can be.
