A Hyundai Sonata has caught fire on the Tema to Accra motorway, burning considerably before personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) arrived to douse the raging flames.
According to a statement by the GNFS, when its firefighting crew arrived at the scene, they observed that the fire was at an advanced stage and had fully engulfed Hyundai Sonata car with registration number GJ 3446-21.
“Fire had almost burnout the Hyundai Sonata car due to prolonged exposure to the effects of the fire. The Crew quickly brought the fire under control at 0800 hours and finally extinguished it at 0805 hours,” the GNFS stated on its Facebook page.
A preliminary investigation into the incident that occurred on the morning of Monday, January 17, 2022, suggests that the Hyundai Sonata had been on fire for some considerable amount of time before the was reported to the Service, the GNFS clarified.
“The cause of the fire was not immediately known but an investigation is still underway to unravel the origin and circumstances that led to the fire.
“The entire Hyundai Sonata car and its contents were completely burnt by the fire. No casualty was recorded in the fire,” the statement said.

District Fire Commander, DO III Richmond Vanderpuye, urged the public to always keep the emergency numbers – 112 and 192 – of the Service handy and ensure to promptly call the Service in times of fire and related emergencies for quick response.
He also admonished the public to pay attention to any unusual smell or noise detected on their vehicles to avert potential vehicle fires.
