Hundreds of security personnel deployed to maintain law and order at the March for Justice demonstration were on high alert as protestors hit the streets.

The crowd of protesters started sparsely at the Accra Mall, the starting point, but subseqent images from the ongoing march showed a thickening crowd of agitated youth determined to send a strong message to the Nana Akufo-Addo-led administration at the Jubilee House.

The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) organised the demonstration to highlight what it says are ceaseless brutalities against civilians by security agencies.

“The protest is to demand justice for all persons killed and brutalised by state-sponsored thuggery and or adventurism by police and military forces,” the NDC has clarified in a statement.

Protestors will gather at the Jubilee House to present a petition to Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

Police personnel in full riot gear and aided with water cannons, armoured vehicles motorbikes are ensuring the agreed route will be followed by the protestors.

However, the presence of the military has raised concerns.

MP for Ningo Prampram, Sam George, raised concerns on Tuesday about the military deployment for the demonstration.

Speaking to the media, Sam George said the military has never been a tool for crowd control and their actions are part of the reasons for their demonstration.

He explained that they had no consultation with the military for them to be deployed for the demonstration.

The military faced a backlash after a soldier shot into a crowd of protestors at Ejura. Two of the protestors died of gunshot wounds while four others sustained severe injuries.
